Seed tomorrow with wise thinking today!

Our fabulous Creative Director of The Success Studio, Courtney, walking the streets of New York City, Starbuck’s coffee in hand, reads this on the back of her cup:

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating – in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. – Anne Morriss

Wow, to commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. I had to read that one again! What are you committed to filling your head with all day long? What are you watching? Listening to? Reading? Who and what do you allow to influence your thinking? If your answer contains a lot of inane television, less than worthy text and people who complain, whine, criticize or blame, you may need to remove much of that from your mind if you expect to monitor, control and remove the barriers to your life.

Have you noticed that people who take responsibility for their lives tend to think differently than those who complain about where they are? Perhaps today’s the day to give your heart permission to un-clutter and de-contaminate your head so you can really hear what your soul is calling you to become.

Life is calling . . . Today’s the day!

Seed tomorrow with a gloriously wise day today!

I’m working in New Jersey this week . . . oooh; there wasn’t snow in Florida last week!

I love when I work with someone I immediately admire. And, I’m especially grateful for the moments I have with leaders who actually lead. Today, the General Manager of the organization I’m working with kicked off our meeting and ended with these words:

Remember: A day will never be any more than what you make of it.

She has the reputation of a being leader people want to follow. Listening to her made me understand why. She maintains high standards, expects the best from herself and others and demonstrates excellence with integrity. Her compassion for her people and her desire to help them excel screams in all she does.

It’s been a good day. And, I’m grateful for being reminded that it will always be what I make it. So, why not make it glorious!

Seed tomorrow with wise pleasures today!

I’m working in Florida this week. What a glorious break from the cold, damp March Midwest right now! In fact I’m in the fun, one of a kind South Beach today . . . definitely different from my Detroit roots!

Last night, as I strolled through the Art Deco Historic District, admiring the architecture, savoring the restaurant aromas and smiling at some of the “chic” fashions in the store fronts, a small sign in a window caught my attention:

Many a man thinks he is buying pleasure, when he is really selling himself to it.

– Benjamin Franklin

Hummm . . . and I wonder what price I’ve paid for a few pleasures I could have lived without. So, as a foodie, I decided to linger longer and enjoy the aromas of the restaurants for a few more minutes. And, I used that time to contemplate a healthier choice than I had originally intended before indulging in the delight of the taste.

Today, may your pleasures be as wise as they are satisfying.

Seed tomorrow with wonder and amazement today!

As I sat at a client’s desk to use his computer, I couldn’t help but read the message he had taped to the lower left hand corner of his screen:

Today only happens once.

Hummm . . . to live this day deliberately and on purpose rather than letting it slip through my fingers, p#$%ing it away or allowing someone else to control it.

Today, I will reactivate wonder, stay amazed at the glories of life and choose joy. Today, I will make this that only happens once worth living. How about you?

Seed tomorrow with wise carrying today!

Sunday night, our two daughters and I wrapped ourselves in blankets, grabbed a plate of grapes and watched the Academy awards together. What fun! Then, we came to those honoring moments as we remembered those who passed over last year and recalled the art of their lives.

A picture of the iconic, beautiful, sultry and talented actor, singer, dancer and civil rights activist, Lena Horne appeared on the screen with words she spoke that are worth remembering:

It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.

Our youngest immediately posted the message on her Facebook page. Wow, the way we communicate has changed since I was her age! We can post, respond and converse with entire communities of people in seconds.

Adding levity to the moment, a mom of one of her friends (my age) posted:
You’re right, and I carry it mostly on my hips!

My hope is that Lena looked down with a smile and a knowing of the doors she opened for others by the exceptional way she carried herself, her challenges and woes, fears and desires, talents and dreams. Thank you for reminding us of what class and grace look, sound and feel like, Lena.
