Seed tomorrow with wise miracle making today!

Working in Florida, and got “lost” driving from Sarasota to Naples. However, during the un-welcomed deviation, we met some intriguing people and found a few treasures on our way back onto our more direct path. I giggled as I remembered a message that was sent to me earlier in the week:

Detours, challenges, and crisis are simply covers for miracles that had no other way of reaching you.

It was a good reminder to reduce my angst and increase my anticipation during the unexpected diversions in life. Let’s face it – they happen. A smile of “what if” while on the alternative route makes for a better detour than the scowl of “oh, _____!”

So, the next time it feels like you’re taking the “long way around” perhaps you too can smile and wait to experience a bit of wonder.

Seed tomorrow with wise gratitude today!

We’re in New York City to share Thanksgiving with our daughter, Courtney and her husband, Scott. This is their first Thanksgiving as husband and wife. So, I pray they (and all of us) continue to be grateful for the good things about our loved ones and reduce the concentration on the things that make us a bit irritated. Hey, we all have flaws. What benefit is there to making them the center of our attention?

A focus of gratitude for each other, for the relationship, and for the care and support we extend to each other is critical for relationships to thrive. As Virginia Satir wrote:

Feelings of worth flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible – the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.

My wish is that all who are reading this are able to be grateful for the acceptance, love and genuine care of a nurturing family. If you’re not feeling cared for at the moment, may you have the courage and compassion to reach out and give to another that which you desire. And, then be grateful for your ability to give.

Wouldn’t it be a shame if we only focused on our blessings that one Thursday in November? Let’s do our best to pay attention to the gifts we have (especially in each other) regularly. Doing so will give our hearts more pleasure, our minds more peace and our communities an increased feeling of worth.

Seed tomorrow with wise learning today!

Today, my husband Curt and I are in Shanghai celebrating 37 years of marriage. Yikes, time passes quickly! As I reflect upon the past few decades I’m amazed at how life can change us, if we remain open to its lessons.

One doesn’t always quickly learn how to love without condition, to surrender judgment and angst in exchange for compassion and understanding in the midst of anger and turmoil, or to cherish the relationship rather than being right or having control. Then I remember Albert Einstein’s words:

The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.

I’m old enough to have experienced learning as a process and time as an essential part of the course. And, I’ve come to know love in the same way. When both are at our fingertips, may we embrace them with wonder & joy and not squander the timeless opportunities.

So, I continue to work on the lessons:
Whatever you have to say, say it with love. Whatever to have to hear, hear it with love.

I’ve got a long way to go . . . how about you?

Seed tomorrow with wise pause today!

I’m fortunate to be working at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation Lodge in Georgia. A beautiful, tranquil setting, with extraordinary views and exceptional service. As I gaze at the water from my balcony I can’t help but be filled with gratitude. These words penned by William Feather travel through my cells:

Plenty of people miss their share of happiness, not because they never found it, but because they didn’t stop to enjoy it.

May we all remember to pause, breathe and sincerely “take in” all that surrounds us now and then. And, with gratitude, may we enjoy a moment of bliss.

Seed tomorrow with wise healing today!

My husband, Curt, had knee surgery Monday. Modern medicine astounds me! He watched the entire procedure on a screen while conversing with the doctor and walked out of the hospital without crutches! Although I’d never even consider viewing an operation, the experience causes me to be extremely grateful to live during this time in history.

Diagnosis of issues (not only physical ones!), a variety of possible solutions and the ability to take action to “fix” problems have never been more within our reach.

Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity. – Hippocrates

Our opportunities to fix issues, seek answers and solve problems are abundant compared to previous generations. May we optimize our opportunities.
