Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise revivification today!

Last weekend we played with our precious grandson, Reid Thomas, in NYC for an entire 3 days! In the midst of all the joy, eventually, it’s always time to pack up and head for the subway to return home. On the way to LaGuardia we were entertained by signs on the N train:

Only the boring get bored

Be more interesting tomorrow than you are today

Do something today that your future self will thank you for

Like many of you, every Spring I ponder revitalization, renewal and re-birth. Easter is this coming weekend (and Reid is coming to Michigan for the holiday!) so resurrection will be deeply contemplated for many of us. These subway messages give me fertilizer with which to cultivate the pondering. Hope they plants some seeds for you as well.

Seed tomorrow with wise happy-looking today!

So many times, with splendid serendipity, I cross paths with messages I need to reflect upon in that very moment. Here’s one I recently stumbled upon in a very unlikely place:

Being happy doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

I’m certain I need to execute this thought. And, you?

Seed tomorrow with wise heart-growing today!

As I walk into my 61st year on this beautiful little planet, I ask myself what I’ve learned, what I treasure most, what I know to be true, what I would benefit from letting go of . . . so many questions I continue to ponder as I grow closer to passing over.

I’m grateful to be blessed by many who have taught me so much. Among them, my amazing husband and two remarkable daughters have been my best teachers. And, I imagine our new little grandson, Reid Thomas, will take me to the next phase of awakening. One thing I’ve learned to be true – what resides in our heart radiates to everyone and everything that surrounds us.

The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seed will you plant there? ~ Buddha

May the next several decades joyfully teach my heart what it needs to learn next! And, may your Spirit be open to the same.

Seed tomorrow with wise music today!

I’m back in Bangkok, once again mesmerized by the sites, sounds, smells and sensations all around me. And, I can’t help but think about the world of difference (literally) this is from the Cuba I experienced just a week ago.

Currently, the only legal way for a U.S. citizen to travel through Cuba is through educational tours. Ours was an art, music and dance agenda.  Ah, the music that accompanied the dance!  Africa, Colonial, Classical, Bolero, Son, Salsa, Mambo, Cha-Cha, Jazz, Rumba . . . a buffet that never ended!  Lectures often accompanied the daytime music excursions. One morning, Professor Faya, also a troubadour and radio & TV host, began his presentation with these words:

In many ways, music is the soul of the people. To understand their music is to understand the people.

Hum . . . Cuban music and dance one week, Thai the next.  Yep, worlds apart!
