Seed tomorrow with wise goal-driven action today!

Our youngest, Amanda, is getting married at the end of June. Her fiancé, Blake, completes medical school a couple weeks before the wedding (and, of course there needs to be a huge graduation party!) Then, in July, we’re all off to Oregon for a reception where Blake was raised. Shortly after, they’ll move to NYC where he’ll do a fellowship in orthopedic trauma and Amanda will continue to work for the same Michigan company; however, will do so from her virtual office in NYC. So, I’m mesmerized by the constant flurry of activities right now. As I watch her orchestrate the events, the packing for the eventual move of home and office, and the execution of an enormous to do list with exceptional mastery, I can’t help but remember Brian Tracy’s words:

Goals allow you to control the direction of change in your favor.

Amanda’s organization astounds me, her consistent actions toward the desired end results are amazing, and, her discipline to stay focused on their agreed upon goals fascinate me the most. I’m observing the behaviors of controlling the direction of change on a daily basis! Good-on-ya, Little One!

Seed tomorrow with wise presence with others today!

Last night I saw a commercial that went something like this:

Not long ago, people visited each other in their homes rather than on their homepages, their door bells rang rather than their cell phones, and neighbors knew what it meant to be neighborly.

May you enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend. And, I hope you have some face time with people you love.

Seed tomorrow with wise graceful stumbling today!

I was in a crowded town square on my last business trip, having a blast observing the behaviors of individuals, couples, families and friends. After all, people-watching is the cheapest form of entertainment, available at any time!

I was moseying close to a couple who sweetly reached for each others hands as they crossed a rough patch in the concrete, with a step close to a skip. She was so intent on paying attention to his reach that she stumbled to an almost fall. However, he was already holding her hand, so he quickly pivoted in front of her and swooped his other hand around her waist. As he held her tightly, what he said next was the sweetest of all:

When you stumble . . . make it part of the dance.

And, our walks continued.

Seed tomorrow with wise page-turning today!

Our first grand baby, Reid, turned 4 months old yesterday. And, he was with us all weekend because his mom threw a memorable weekend bachelorette party for her sister.  It was a throw back to their childhood, so Saturday night her brides maids were gifted with footed jammies and a bag of Pez dispensers, Nerds, Blow Pops, Tootsie Rolls, Ring Pops and a number of other memory producing sweets . . . all eaten while playing old games under a tent made of sheets, with flashlights nearby.

The entire weekend surfaced surreal sensations. I felt the joy and appreciation of being blessed with such a remarkable family and the profound regret of moments missed.  I was mesmerized by Reid’s first morning smiles, completely captivated by his cooing, felt no need to rush when rocking him to sleep, nor was my mind occupied with a “to do” list while calming him in moments of whininess. It was liberating with a touch of agony.

I profoundly heard the constant giggles amongst the girls with a distinct memory of missing that. I became highly attentive to their ability to be in the moment with each other and envied their young ability to let go of stress and simply enjoy. And, I felt the pang of “if I had it to do all over again” . . . as a parent, I would be more present; I would genuinely enjoy simple moments with the clarity of how brief they are; I would still be strict; however, certainly not as stern, somber and serious; I would relax and be clearer about that which is most important.  Then, thank God, I received this message Monday morning:

You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.

Perhaps like some of you, I wasn’t capable of letting go, relaxing into moments and enjoying them when I and our children were younger. Perhaps I appreciate more now because I experienced what I did then.  No matter – the pen is in hand for the next chapters and I promise myself more attentiveness, appreciation, peace and joy in experiencing them.

Seed tomorrow with wise happy today!

Yesterday, I traveled back to Michigan after a week and a half of working away from home. At the airport I scrolled through an abundance of Face Book posts to catch up with friends and family.  I was overflowing with “happy” as I read, since I was anticipating our little’s one’s bachelorette party this weekend with the added excitement of having her sister and our grandson home for the events.  So, I giggled as I read Scott Friedman’s post from a while back:

Judge nothing, you will be happy. Forgive everything, you will be happier. Love everything, you will be happiest.               ~  Sri Chinmoy

Compassion and understanding, forgiveness and love  . . . such predictable, conscious companions of happy!
