Seed tomorrow with wise happy today!

Life is so fast and fragile, I’ve found it helpful to pause now and then to breathe in gratitude. Today is one of those days – my husband, Curt, celebrates his birthday!  In reflection, I’m acutely aware that I’d be blessed to simply have Curt as a good friend. And, therefore, remain sincerely privileged to walk next to him as my life partner. The example of how he lives his life has caused me to learn and in many ways to transform.  As president, John F. Kennedy once reminded us:

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

In the end, there’s often more said than done.  Curt, thank you for demonstrating life worth living by the behaviors you choose on a daily basis. Happy, Happy Birthday!

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise maturation today!

We spent last weekend on Mackinac Island to enjoy the Lilac Festival for Fathers Day.  It was festive, fun, fascinating, and we left with forever memories!  Sunday included a concert by the Clown Band, comprised of Michigan band directors, a delightful Upper Michigan parade, and lots of delicious food – of course, including fudge! The morning sermon in church was about being an exceptional father.  One of the priest’s points resonated deeply:

A man matures into being an exceptional father.

And, isn’t that true for everything we eventually master?  The maturing process is intriguing and well worth jumping into. In whatever areas of our lives we become exceptional, we navigate through the process to achieve our desired end results.

Thank you to all the exceptional fathers who elegantly (and sometimes awkwardly – that’s part of the process!) facilitate the growth and development in their children.  May we all mature into that which we declare as most important.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise fermentation today!

Working in Central America for the first time, and, as we drove into Panama City, Panama, the driver said it’s called “Little Manhattan” down here . . . and I can see why!  It’s architecturally stellar, culturally textured and seems as progressive as Shanghai!  I ignorantly had no idea this country was growing and developing so rapidly!  Stopping in a microbrewery for an afternoon break in Old Town, we read this on the wall:

Fermentation and civilization are inseparable.

Looking up the definition of fermentation, I read to “set in motion; to excite or agitate.”  Signs of that are all around here!  Off to explore the Panama Canal this afternoon, with expectations of more wisdom to evoke the brew my own internal fermentation awaiting somewhere!

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise resilience today!

This morning, I travel from St. Louis to Dallas.  And, my prayers remain with all who have been evacuated from their homes north and south of the city along the Mississippi River.  Last night, I had a fascinating conversation with Margaret, the Club Lounge server at the hotel, about living along the river.  For generations her family has faced high waters, floods, and rushing waters and sand bags more times than she’d like to remember.  In a frustrating moment for Margaret during one of those floods her mom said:

 Child, life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving; therefore, we get stronger and more resilient.

Wisdom l’ll take with me and remember, Margaret. Thank you.
