Seed tomorrow with wise service today!

I’m feeling blessed to be working in Washington DC this week, amidst  the ceremony surrounding Martin Luther King’s influence of the memorable march fifty years ago. Today, speaker after speaker called us to action to keep alive the possibility of a more equal and peaceful future.

This afternoon, Oprah Winfrey reminded us of Dr. King’s message:

Not everyone can be famous; however, everyone can be great, because greatness is about service.

Five decades later, there’s profound wisdom in this statement, spoken to a nation that has become more self-centered and self-indulged with a fixation on fame.  Today, with increased understanding and compassion, let’s all serve a bit more and add to the possibility of unity, equality and peace.

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise change today!

I’m working with Ford this week, revisiting a familiar venue and reuniting with team members who are passionately vigilant at creating value for their customers.  In an intriguing conversation with an engineer about the risk of completely changing the design of a vehicle, he paraphrased Einstein:

In terms of real transformation, cars are like people: We must let go of parts of who we are to become what we could be.

So, I ask myself what I need to release next. . .

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise circles today!

I was blessed to return to work with the staff of the Ritz Carlton, Reynolds Plantation in Georgia this week.  Acres of splendidly groomed greenery, a glistening lake, echoing sounds of nature and recently renovated rooms all add to the serene visit.  On each newly sheeted bed lays a pillow with wisdom from native inhabitants of this land.  Upon entering my room I read:

The power of the world always works in circles     ~ Black Elk

That evening, relaxed around their campfire, making smores inspired thoughts of the circles of life. Families gathered around dinner tables, teams in huddles, facilitated discussions in group therapy as well as corporate conversations.  And, of course, Karma that returns life to us in full circle.  Ah, the power of ancient wisdom.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise focus today!

I’m repeatedly amazed by the power of focus. Like some of you, there are things I’ve been meaning to do, wanting to do, going to get around to doing . . . however, haven’t started!  Now that a very busy summer of planning, implementing and enjoying events that are now forever fond memories, those things I’ve not given focus to are staring me in the face!  Of course, as I was pondering any chance of postponing action one more day, I read this:

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.     ~ Walt Disney

Or, as my dear friend Chris Clarke Epstein says, Reading, thinking or talking about doing a thing IS NOT doing the thing!

To achieve results in the most important areas of our lives and create outcomes of our choice, action is consistently required.  Unfortunately, it appears that in the end, there’s often more said than done.  Today’s a good day to start the habit of doing more and talking less.
