Seed tomorrow with wise wonderfuls today!

My excitement about roaming the roads of Mumbai was dimmed this morning when I opened my email to read a message from the brilliant consultant, coach, professional speakers and dear friend, Chris Clarke-Epstein this morning about the passing of Dr. Maya Angelou. A singer, actress, author, poet, and civil rights pioneer, Chris describes her accurately as a Force of Nature. Dr. Angelou was a mentor to many of us and, literally, changed the way I think about life itself.

Even though it’s not Wednesday, as I bowed my heart in honor, respect and contemplation, I selected to post two messages Chris shared from Dr. Angelou that are also close to my heart:

When you get, give. When you learn, teach.

Be sure you do not die without doing something wonderful.

Dr. Angelou lived up to her words in both messages. May we all be able to say the same.

Seed tomorrow with wise “anyways” today!

Very long flights to India are the reason for this delayed message. This is my first adventure of work in this country, and I couldn’t be more excited. With endless hours on airplanes to read and prepare, Deepak Chopra and Mother Teresa gave me fertilizer for thought. I carried this message from Mother Teresa’s with me to the land she where she conducted so much of her work.

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives. Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
People who really want help may attack you if you help them. Help them anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt. Give the world your best anyway.

Enough said. It’s 2:30 AM here. Time to simmer before sleep.

Seed tomorrow with wise expectations today!

I’m working at the spectacular Reynolds Plantation Ritz Carlton this week and overheard one of the front office agents (they’re called Ladies & Gentlemen – I love that!) say to another:

Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting the bull not to attack you because you’re a vegetarian.

Yep, I’ll remember this one!

Seed tomorrow with wise appreciation of the ordinary today!

I’m working at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant this week. Last night, kicking back and relaxing late into the evening, I played a bit of Solitaire, then made a quick scan through FB to see what friends are family are up to.  Wonderfully, I ran across a post from Joe Calloway – an exceptional, in fact, extraordinary businessman, entrepreneur, professional speaker, father and valued friend:

Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives.

Such striving may be admirable, but it is a way of foolishness.

Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life.

Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears.

Show them how to cry when pets and people die.

Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand.

And, make the ordinary come alive for them.

The extraordinary will take care of itself.

If you’re reading this, I hope you take away something from the words. My greatest hope  . . . that my children are reading, appreciating and activating them (for they are both wiser than I was at their age).

Seed tomorrow with wise humanity today!

I was moved by an exhilarating interview with a spiritual thought leader, Panache Desai. Several things he shared made shifts in my thinking. He suggested we perceive life as a living mediation. Hum – that welcomes increased awareness of all those precious, even mundane moments when we may now be asleep, numb or even dead to what’s happening in and around us.

I will intensely ponder two of his messages:

Life is happening for us to lead us back to ourselves.

A great reminder to increase the focus and contemplation of our inner world.

Our humanity is the doorway to the Divine.

A profound welcome to increase the awareness of our deliberate intentions as we behave in our outer world.
