Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise examination today!

It’s been years since my husband, Curt and I have worked together. And, now we’re in Florida for a week of laboring during the day and hanging out and enjoying the beauty of Naples and Sarasota after work. What fun!

Reflecting upon our work together years ago, I shudder at the ways I managed to make things wretched that could have been pleasant and full of learning. Of course, life includes challenges, obstacles and struggles. Rather than meeting them with open arms and understanding them as creating capability and results, I had the amazing skill of making moments miserable. So, I’m grateful for Socrates words:

The unexamined life is not worth living.

Oh wise sage, thank you for reminding me to experience and examine, so I can explore and enjoy. For, each is required to move toward wisdom. And, in our 5 decades together, thank you Curt, for your consistent kindness and joy, even in the midst of difficulties.

PS: Happy Birthday tomorrow!!

Seed tomorrow with wise attentiveness today!

We just had a glorious week with our 17 month old grandson, Reid in NYC. I thought being a mother was the greatest experience of all . . . then, I became a gramma . . . Wow! I hadn’t seen him in a month, so I flew straight from Asia to NYC. We adored every moment, and it, once again, clarified why little ones are given to young people!

One of my favorite experiences is to be present with Reid as he interacts with mommy and daddy. They’re all more present and attentive than I remembering being. Decades later I understand that getting caught up in life’s busy-ness simply distracts us from experiencing that which is most important in life.

While there Reid gave me a beautiful little sign that reads:

The most important things in life are not things.

It’s a beautiful thing to realize your children and grandchildren are the ones teaching you.

Seed tomorrow with wise aura marinating today!

Although it’s Tuesday for most of you, it’s 2 AM Wednesday, here in Vietnam, and I’m getting ready to go to the airport for the long flights home. Once again, I leave Asia with gratitude for the intense sights, sounds, smells and sensations created by magnificent humans inhabiting this beautiful little planet. No matter where I adventure, I cross paths with people who have gracious hearts, compassionate spirits and minds focused on divine humanity.

In Chennai, India, I asked what makes service so important in any industry, and a participant responded:

Because it challenges and welcomes your aura to expand and reach outward to others. In doing so, you change any moment in time. Doing this repeatedly is what changes the world.

Aura? The only definition of aura I’ve ever known is the waves of energy that surround our external body and can be seen by some. I have never been exposed to an aura as the inner essence of a being that extends itself outwardly.

Once again, I shift. For those who can see that outward aura of others . . . you’re actually seeing what’s internally marinating? Cool.

PS: Honestly, you don’t need to write in hopes of helping me understand how naïve or unaware I am of all the “evil” continuously happening in the world. Like many, I’m in the habit of touching base with CNN daily while on the road . . . I know. And, it seems there’s enough coverage of all those events. So, I’d like to offer another side of the human experience.

Seed tomorrow with wise awareness today!

Today, I’m traveling from Chennai, India to Surabaya, Indonesia, and re-reading one of Deepak Chopra’s books. The experiences of India continue to echo in my mind. A native of India, Dr. Chopra practiced medicine in the U.S, blending the Eastern principles of Ayurveda, a traditional Hindu medicine and conventional Western medicine as an approach to a healthy life. These words remind me of letting go what makes us crazy and eats away at our joy:

If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. Be aware of them every time they come up.

Ah, letting go of ego – not an easy process, yet one that yields great rewards.
