Seed tomorrow with wise peace today!

I leave Malaysia and head back to the States with a very heavy heart. My thoughts and prayers remain with all those who lost loved ones in the tragedy of MH17. The workplace I leave is beyond somber with grief as they attempt to deal with loss, shock and anger. In the Malaysian Sunday News, a young woman’s words were spoken painfully through the agony of her loss:

People all have the basic right to live; life isn’t really all that complicated, but people make it so. The only thing that makes the world sick and complicated are those feeding their egos. What makes them think they’re so superior that they can play God?

Einstein stated, Genius is making the complicated simple. Take a glance at the current clashes around the globe because of complicated issues . . . perhaps it’s time to get simple, real simple. Innocent people need not suffer and die because of the few with an unquenchable thirst for power who use force to demand their way.

A young man from Australia, who lost his parents in the disaster says it quite simply:

We do no seek retribution for our loss. Rather, we beg for peace.

Seed tomorrow with wise collective thinking today!

I finished work and grabbed a bite to eat in Melbourne, Australia last night before jumping on an all-night flight that left at midnight for Miri, Malaysia. Three women at the table next to me were having a stressful conversation that sounded like a disagreement about how to move their business forward. As the intensity increased, an anxious comment was made by one of them that created a long space of silence, finally broken by another:

Let’s stop worrying about the thief in the alley . . . right now, the one in our collective mind is what’s holding us back.

That comment took the conversation to an entire different place. Funny how clarity about the messages marinating in our minds, as well as the ones that leave our mouth can help us move from where we are to where we want to be.

Seed tomorrow with wise DOING today!

Once again, the black tie awards banquet brought the National Speakers Association’s annual convention to an end. At the gala Hall of Fame affair, Chris Clarke-Epstein, a treasured friend, and brilliant professional, was named the recipient of the community’s highest honor, the Cavett Award, embodying the spirit of one of its founders, Cavett Roberts.

Her life is a series of continuous contribution. She provides value to her clients and offers wisdom for change beginning with her eloquence. Observe her and you’ll see her actions turning those messages into productive forward motion. This message from her echoes in my mind:

Thinking, talking and reading about a thing is not DOING the thing.

In her life as an exceptional wife, mother, professional speakers, consultant, coach, facilitator and mentor, Chris exemplifies her words. In our community of practice, as in her life, she consistently contributes with grace, elegance and hard work. Her words are worth understanding, her actions change the world around her. Congratulations and thank you, Chris!!

Seed tomorrow with wise strength today!

Yesterday, participants in a session had a productive conversation about goal setting, perseverance, mental discipline and resolve. Within that discussion, one young man shared a lesson he’s heard often from his mom:

The wishbone will never replace the backbone.

It seems wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’ all require the support and spine of determination and action.
