Seed tomorrow with wise habit forming today

Tomorrow I enter my 63rd year on this lovely little planet. And, it’s therefore time to take the annual assessment of my life. Reflection with brutally honest feedback, recalibration of thoughts that hold me back and disciplined re-commitment to necessary actions toward my desired results.

As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over again the kind of thought we wish to dominate our lives.        ~Henry David Thoreau

Although I’d like faster results, I guess I could also benefit from patience as the grooves dig deeper in the recordings of in my mind!

Seed tomorrow with wise soul-following today

Leslie Charles, an author, consultant, educator and professional speaker I love and respect recently posted this on Face Book:

Re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss what insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem. ~ Walt Whitman

This is not about dismissing what you’ve learned that your soul deems worthy of honoring. It feels more like the song “Let it Go” from the movie Frozen that even our two year old grandson even seems to get as he sings it with vigor. Listen to your inner voice . . . trust your intuition . . . wisdom resides there.

Seed tomorrow with wise mental discipline today

The same message traveled my way twice in the same day. Thinking I should listen! The first was in an interview with Jack Kornfield, American author, teacher and trained Buddhist monk:

My mind is not a good neighborhood. I try to not go there by myself.

The mental babble that can continuously consume us needs discipline. So, we need to protect our precious mind by what we read, observe and involve ourselves with all day long. Who do we hang with on a regular basis? Are our conversations worthy of our life? Which ones do we want to linger longer in our minds?

It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power!                   ~ Robert T. Kiyosaki

Too often, we invest significantly more in feeding our tummies than our minds. An increase in awareness and redirected investment can start today!

Seed tomorrow with wise focus today

Here we are, in the second month of 2015 – yet another chance to reflect and recalibrate life. A month ago, some of us set goals for the New Year, some looked toward the future with hope, while others looked at the past with regret.

New beginnings offer us the opportunity to go inside and explore life’s deeper questions, returning to our daily activities with increased clarity about reinvigorated dreams and a tighter focus on making them happen. Alexander Graham Bell, a significant contributor to this lovely little planet left behind words as well as inventions:

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.

Greater clarity about our highest priorities and the mental discipline to be more fully present as life unfolds may just welcome the sun’s rays.
