Seed tomorrow with wise blooming today

Spiritual teacher, Elizabeth Lesser, writes:

Opening into our brokenness helps us grow into ourselves. It’s like allowing the bud of a rose to bloom. Remaining tight to the bud is to live half a life.

Have you noticed that challenges, difficult times and pain can break us open and cause growth when we frame the experience and emotions accordingly? They can also break us when we carry the load with heaviness, helplessness, and hopelessness.

Seed tomorrow with wise attention today

I’m back in Indonesia working this week and savoring the moments. On the elliptical this morning, I watched an intriguing segment about Daku, a graffiti artist in New Delhi. His underground work brightens otherwise dark spaces throughout his city.

Recently, he noticed a mass of signs spring up, many of them attempting to control the traffic. With an understanding that the Indian culture doesn’t adhere to traffic governance (I concur. Like several cities in the world its like choreographed chaos – there are lane lines in the road; however, they seem to be suggestions never noticed). So, he used STOP signs as opportunities to grab people’s attention. Adding another very official looking word to signs, people now read:

STOP honking, STOP selfishness, STOP stealing, STOP greed, STOP prejudice, STOP rape . . .

I’m not suggesting we all run out and violate governing directions. Daku reminds me that when we desire change, being innovative about grabbing attention is something to consider.

Seed tomorrow with wise YOU construction today

In an interview about the journey back to herself, Grammy award winning singer and songwriter, India Arie talked about her default line being a lack of well being. She continued:

Your real job in the world is you.

That work leaves no time or energy to criticize or judge others’ flaws, quirks or drama. Something I simply need to remember on a daily basis!
