Seed tomorrow with wise celebration today

This week, Curt and I work in Boston. We’ll have valuable time with my brothers and Curt will celebrate his 64th birthday. To all those who have birthdays this month, please hear these words from Dr. Christiane Northup:

Growing old is inevitable, aging is optional.

This year, may you celebrate all that you’ve become rather than marking it as another milestone of the years you’ve survived. Although we don’t live in a culture that celebrates and values its elders, as we get older, we have the opportunity to do so with increased mastery, value, grace and wisdom.

Seed tomorrow with wise humility today

Working with a few fabulous teams in Atlanta this week, and being offered the reminder that:

Humility is not thinking less of yourself; humility is thinking of yourself less.

There’s a reason we’re drawn to unpretentious, unassuming, authentic people – they’re, approachable, appealing, and alluring. In their presence there’s a strong sense that we matter, that they are genuinely interested in us, and they take delight in others’ achievements.

May we sincerely enjoy the essence of others as we practice the art of a humble spirit.

Seed tomorrow with wise pleasure today

A recent study of people who survived the diagnosis of a terminal illness reports that the year after their recovery was the most difficult.

It appears we have become good at surviving; however less competent at living.

Perhaps we all need to practice the advice of many healthy centurions and practice pleasure.
Rather than routinely and numbingly getting through our days, perhaps we can put into practice the art of savoring . . . delight in a piece of chocolate, a sip of port, the majestic leaves of a tree, the bloom of a spring flower, the magnificence of those we love.

Choosing the presence of mind to observe, feel and cherish life, seasoned with wonder and awe, may help us become more competent at living. It’s worth a try.

Seed tomorrow with wise dancing today

Curt and I are working at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant this week. That translates into long days of focused effort and concentrated fun and relaxation once the work is completed. We’re a team that seeks good food, cultural diversity and creating memories worth recalling. So, last night, we ventured out to enjoy dinner at a recommended local Thai restaurant. The experience was rich with spicy food, spectacular service and savory conversation. Even the Ladies room caught me lost in thought over these words captured in a frame:

Those who can’t dance blame it on the flute and the drum.

Hum . . . perhaps it’s time to boogie!
