Seed tomorrow with wise choices today

Has a New Year’s resolution been neglected lately? Are you feeling less than blissful recently? Do you have a yearning for something different, something more? Finding yourself making excuses for how you got where you are? Is it time for change? Carl Jung gives us good advice:

I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.

Every day, the decisions we make define who we are and the future that awaits us. So, we may as well get serious about where we are, where we want to be, and take action . . . one baby step at a time.

In the middle of pondering this thought I received this message in an email:

Growth is painful. Change is painful. However, nothing is more painful as staying stuck where you don’t belong.

Okay – I get the message!
Life is calling . . . Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise individuality today

Our beautiful God daughter, Lauren Delapaz tied the knot with Mychael Evans last Saturday. Another gathering of our large, passionate, hard-to-forget tribe. During the ceremony, the mothers of the bride and groom each picked up a jar of colored sand and pour them into one vessel. The bride and groom followed with the same behavior, into the same vessel. After the pouring, our son-in-law, who officiated the wedding expressed:

Please notice that some sand remains in each original jar as a reminder that, although you are joining as one, you remain original individuals – there is importance in your individuality.

It’s easy to “lose oneself” in many things, often to other people. However, we don’t lose our essence, our life-force thumbprint, our personal passions, the inner yearning of our soul, or the silent whisper of our spirit when we commit to another. If we neglect them, they will eventually reel their heads, often in in dreadful ways, to be acknowledged. Let’s remember to give, yet also hold sacred the essence of who we truly are.

Seed tomorrow with wise tribe attention today

Our beautiful grandson, Sir Reid Thomas turned 3 years old a few days ago. He, his little brother, our daughter and son in law were home for dad’s passing and the holidays. And, of course, we had a birthday celebration. Coming from a large family, festivities were non-stop and loud. The first day he entered the house without a large gathering he immediately ran in the family room, came to a dead stop, put his hands to his head, and with great sadness exclaimed:

Oh no, the party’s gone! All the party’s gone!

I felt his pain. Isn’t it glorious to be surrounded by people – people you know love and support you, no matter what?! Yeah, I come from a family that’s just as dysfunctional and crazy, with issues and conflicts like most. However, look around. There is also texture threaded with affection, validation and reassurance sometimes noticed in the most difficult times, celebrated in the best of time.

The question I ask myself is: How do I contribute to our functioning, caring tribe? And, what do I need to eliminate that contributes to its dysfunction. How about you?

Seed tomorrow with wise magic today

Here we are – the first Wednesday of 2016. The welcome of a New Year brings the anticipation of great adventures within 365 days of opportunities to grow, while savoring the experience. As Curt and I roam the streets of New Orleans, taking in the magic of the City, we bump into these words:

Our time here is magic! It’s the only space you have to realize whatever it is that is beautiful, whatever is true, whatever is great, whatever is potential, whatever is rare, whatever is unique. It’s the only space.

We can embrace each day as colorful, intriguing, creatively full of adventurous opportunities and mysteriously magical, or as monotonous, mediocre and mundane. Your choice . . . it’s the only space!
