Seed tomorrow with wise reflection today

Working in Tampa this week, enjoying the sunshine during every moment of downtime.  While relaxing by the pool, I overheard a conversation that included:

Don’t look back, you’re not going that way.

I happily spent the next few minutes in reflective gratitude for the blessed life I’ve had, the sacred life I’m experiencing and the joy of looking forward to all the adventures that await a simple embrace.

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise stories today

 This Sunday, my second “brother” experienced the heartbreaking passing of his brother.  The same morning, Curt arrived at work to discover someone had anonymously left a Kai Guang amulet on his desk at work – a token of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.  Her story: through great love and sacrifice, she reached enlightenment and earned the right to enter Nirvana after death. However, while standing before the gates of Paradise she heard cries of anguish from earth below. Turning back, she renounced her reward of eternal bliss and selected immortality in the hearts of the suffering, forever helping those who are struggling on their path.

It’s intriguing that most spiritual teachers do so through stories, typically left for us to interpret through deep contemplation. Jerry’s brother Bob will stay alive in the hearts of those who love know and him by the narrative they remember and share. In The Story of Life, Jimi Hendrix sang:

The story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye, until we meet again.

Life is fast and fragile. May we remember that love not only sustains us while we’re alive, it also lingers in our goodbye.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise beauty today

 We’re working in Louisville this week and thought of my dear friend, Leslie Charles as I passed this sign:

Some people look for a beautiful place, others look to make a place beautiful.

During a challenging move from the home she cherished for 3 decades, Leslie bought a sweet cottage located precisely where she wanted to plant herself.  However, this wonderful space was far from what Leslie would or could call beautiful.  Worn from years of obvious abuse and neglected, the space was screaming for help.  Leslie gutted the entire interior, then artfully crafted from a new, clean canvas. She brought beauty to a level this wonderful cottage on the lake has never experienced before!

Thank you for continuously keeping me in the loop of your year-long renovation.  Observing the process was a profound lesson in the power of creating, intentionally and specifically, what we want rather than grumbling about what we have.

Seed tomorrow with wise re-locating today

In New Orleans, working, exploring and savoring the most delicious chargrilled oysters!  In between busy-ness, I repose into time to read.  Jack Kornfield, offers a suggestion to those who say fear is what causes them to avoiding changing situations that make them miserable:

Fear is the cheapest room in the house.  I’d like to see you in better living conditions.

Perhaps it’s time to stop blocking our blessings and move to a more effective space.  You know what “they say” – location, location, location!
