Seed tomorrow with wise melodies today

 Curt and I are working with a team in Lima, Ohio this week.  Last night, as we drove to dinner through the sweet, yet tired and desperately in-need-of- attention downtown, I couldn’t help but think about the musical comedy-drama TV series, Glee, staged at the fictional McKinley High School in Lima. Since our daughters were both dancers and in show choir, we often watched. Characters were odd, original, dysfunctional, challenged and quirky – just like real life. However, their commonality was clear – they were deeply rooted in music. As sappy as it was, people would break into song as a way of expressing emotions, processing through issues, communicating more effectively with others . . . and the list goes on.  Carlos Santana expressed his experience this way:

Ever since I was a child I’ve always been very attracted to melodies. Whether I hear Jeff Beck, a choir, an ocean or the wind, there’s always a melody in there.

Music may not speak to all in the same way; however, life does seem to have its tune.

Seed tomorrow with wise implementation today

 We worked in Chicago at the beginning of the week and were delighted to meet a few intelligent, thoughtful, results-oriented young women.  Their curiosity for historical women who have made a difference was refreshing.  Mary Kay Ash was mentioned.  At a time when there were significantly less opportunities for women who desired independence and abundance, Mary Kay offered an option for those looking for more. Not only did she provide an entrepreneurial opportunity, education and processes to support achievement, she also offered an alternative mind-set of the day required to succeed. Her words:

Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who implement them are priceless.

Yep, there’s a big difference between thoughts, decisions and implementation. Action and consistent, assiduous work are rare, rewarding and beyond price.

 We’re working in Hilton Head, then onto Savannah this week, with plenty of time to people watch – the cheapest form of entertainment on the planet!  It’s like we all live in a “fish bowl.” And, it’s so easy to look into others transparent space and make conclusions about their life, inaccurate as they may be!  Marlene Chism makes this observation:

By your choices you reveal your commitments.

Choices translated into behaviors are observable. So, Marlene, that means we would benefit by “checking in” with ourselves now and then to witness our own life.  Perhaps we’d see what’s obvious to others as they observe us!  Inner work, increased awareness and intentional commitments seem swimmingly beneficial.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise building today

 Working our second week in Arizona, Curt and I have the luxury of time for conversation. As we relax in between work, we discuss: It seems change is motivated by either avoidance or yearning. Sometimes we modify our behaviors to avoid or escape something we fear or hate. However, have you noticed the energy is significantly different when we move toward something rather than away?  Centuries ago, Socrates seems to have sensed the same notion:

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

In my youth, I invested a lot of energy avoiding the possibility of being shamed, abused, poor, vulnerable and feelings of unworthiness.  Decades later I experienced the shift when pictures in the head change to nobility, honor, inner peace, abundance, trust in vulnerability and a sense of being enough. By doing so, we avoid less and embrace more experiences that might, at first look scary.

 

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise alignment today

We’re working in Phoenix this week and of course, exploring as much as we can, with our eyes wide open. So, we bumped into this statement by Robert Heinlein. Although I don’t know who he is, I understand his comment:

In absence of clearly defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia, until we ultimately become enslaved by it.

Reflection may recall days filled with non-value added moments, because of the misalignment between our behaviors and what we promised ourselves we’d accomplish. For me, this includes times I committed to complete relaxation, to free up my mind and body and surrender into doing nothing – to re-create and refresh. Yet, I managed to detour from the goal and fill the precious time with work. By definition, work became performing trivia . . . let the truth set me free!
