Seed tomorrow with wise miracles today

In the wee hours of last Tuesday morning, our tiny daughter delivered Sam Ashton Miller, 9 pounds, 13 ounces, 22.5 inches.  A treacherous 36 hours of labor followed by complications, thank God, resulted with a healthy mom and baby.  Needless to say, my mind was not focused on Wednesday Wisdom in the morning.  Miracles occurred that night.  Two of being the birth of a beautiful baby as well as the birth of a capable mother:

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. The mother is something absolutely new.        – Rajneesh

Grateful for both miracles. Blessings to all who know this is the beginning of the never ending process of  motherhood.

Seed tomorrow with wise habits today

Today, 95 years ago, an amazingly compassionate, kind and patient woman was born.  Six of us were blessed to call her “mom.” Anna taught us the value of character, the power of non-judgment and the strength of kindness through her everyday habits. A devote and faithful Christian, she was a living example of service and sacrifice habitually delivered joyfully. Her daily behaviors, of course, had an impact on each of us.

Habits are like financial capital – forming one today is an investment that will automatically yield returns for years to come.

And, in mom’s case, for generations.  As a leader within a family it’s impossible to determine the reach of one change, in one person as it affects all who surround them.  As I remember mom today I’ll also take an honest inventory of my habits – would mom be pleased?

Seed tomorrow with wise, small moments today

I often hear conversations about character being molded in the major moments of our lives. Perhaps it’s revealed in those minutes while being shaped by life’s struggles and challenges.  It seems the accumulation of daily, intentional, purposeful choices contribute to our resiliency, our ability to handle difficulties and our signature veracity. This was on my mind all day yesterday, after reading a plaque on a client’s wall:

Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones.

Increasing attention and awareness to Self – being a compassionate observer of oneself –  in the daily, routine, sometimes mundane moments may be a key to what we reveal in the significant ones . . . or, perhaps what makes the small moments equally significant . . .
