Seed tomorrow with wise attention today

Back in fabulous Chicago this week. Oprah says of the city:

My first day in Chicago . . . I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I belonged here.”

Paying attention to the feel, the sounds, the sights, the smells, and especially the people of a city awakens our soul, offers us adventures, and welcomes us to feel at home. The more we travel, the more familiar each location seems – city after city – more like home, rooted in humanity, communal, with an understanding that people are more alike than imaginable, and basically, all want the same in life, no matter where they call home. I now anticipate the excitement of setting foot in the unfamiliar, waiting for the familiar to speak.

Seed tomorrow with wise service today

Curt and I left Paraguay with splendid memories of beauty & warmth, our hearts touched by welcoming, kind people. And, our tummies and souls satiated with their unique cuisine.

Upon arrival in Uruguay, it didn’t take long to learn about their beloved former president, Jose Mujica, who never moved into the presidential palace, rather chose to remain in his chrysanthemum farm with his wife, flowers and animals. His life and was one as president not as king – as civil servant who, whose behaviors were to serve. Here’s one of his many thoughts:

There are those who believe that power is up above, so they don’t notice that it is actually in the hearts of the masses.

Perhaps our nations and our globe would benefit from increased understanding of our heart and its impact on the collective consciousness. The collective begins with each one of us.

Seed tomorrow with wise inclusion today

Curt and I are excited to work in Paraguay and Uruguay the next several days – two places we’re never experienced before – so, the fabulous adventures begin!  We even got to celebrate Paraguay’s Independence Day Monday!  Like all over the globe, we have been greeted with warmth and a genuine concern for our comfort. We appreciate each opportunity to experience and enjoy diverse cultures.

Diversity: The art of thinking independently together.             ~ Malcom Forbes

An inclusive culture values human worth and embraces, with respect, varied opinions. Of course, conversation and sometimes debate is required for understanding, growth and progress.  We can move from dependence to independence, then finally onto interdependence when we listen with the intent to understand and remember the respectful part of the dialogue of differing opinions.

Seed tomorrow with wise commitment today

This week, Curt and I had a couple days of work in Houston, then onto San Diego. With a genuine desire to serve, we’ve come to love the people in the property here at the San Diego Sheraton.

Yesterday, a front desk agent and I had a brief, yet pause-causing conversation. She reminded me of the mastery of Paulo Coelho words (Brazilian lyricist and novelist):

Profound commitment to a dream does not confine or constrain: it liberates. Even a difficult, winding path can lead to your goal if you follow it to the end.

It’s too easy to give up during the challenging, sometimes treacherous part of the journey toward what we desire. However, too often we give up just as the winding road unfolds to the path of achievement near the end . . . and, occasionally, to something even better!
