Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise perspective today

We’re working in Boston this week and therefore have the complete pleasure of time with my brothers.  Coincidentally bumped into this statement by Rick Riodan, author of The Sword of Summer:

I guess no true Bostonian would trust a place that was sunny and pleasant all the time. But a gritty, perpetually cold and gloomy neighborhood? Throw in a couple of Dunkin’ Donuts locations, and I’m right at home.

I find collective perspectives fascinating . . . will have to ask Greg and Jerry if this one fits!

Seed tomorrow with wise “I wills” today

I’m always intrigued by the power of managing expectations.  Recently reading this stated by David Copperfield reminded me once again:

The most important thing in life is to stop saying “I wish” and start saying “I will.” Consider nothing impossible, then treat possibilities as probabilities.

What happens when we decide to behave as though success is the most logical outcome of our behaviors?

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise filling-of-hands today

We left the hotel at 3:00 this morning to catch a flight from Tampa to New Orleans. A tired, lucky me overheard two voices that caught my early morning ear. Waiting to board the plane I overheard two elderly gentlemen reflecting today’s child raising practices:

A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty.

Then, I wish I had heard the entire interview with a U.S. Senator speaking about the impact of the lack of “adults” in today’s world. What I did hear was this:

Hard work is part of the maturing process of a human. Fewer parents seem interested and committed to having their children experience that hard work. And, they are more apt to do everything they can to make the child’s life as easy as possible.

Hum – are we raising people who are capable of contributing to society, who are able to create results with developed endurance through the process of focus, discipline and labor, especially when they are in need or want – children who are appreciative of the help they receive? Or, is there an increase in the lack of maturity in children who habitually look to others to fill their empty, little hands?

Seed tomorrow with wise WHYS today

Since we accepted a bid on our home and have been out of town or out of the country every week in 2017, this is a frantic few days in town of sorting, purging and packing.  Somehow, we didn’t expect things to move so quickly, so we scheduled a cruise to relax and catch our breath on our week off.  That quickly got cancelled!  Ah, life’s joys!  Our next chapter offers us the opportunity to live nearer to one of our daughters, her husband and our beautiful grandson.  Keeping that “why” in our minds makes this packing process far less painful.

Our WHY goals are always more inspiring than our “what” goals.

 And . . . your WHYS?
