Seed tomorrow with wise understanding, compassion and love today
To my Christian family and friends – Merry Christmas! And, between November 1 and January 15 there are approximately 29 Holy Days observed by 7 of the world’s major religions. So, in honor of all who respectfully celebrate their sacred way, I contemplate on the call to compassion voiced by ancients – worthy of our listening:
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive. ~ Dalai Lama
Hurt not others with that which pains yourself. ~ Buddhism
I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. ~ Jesus Christ
Do unto others as you would have them to unto you. ~ Christianity
God is compassionate and is fond of compassion, and He gives to the compassionate what he does not give to the harsh. ~ Prophet Muhammad
Do unto all men as you would wish to have done unto you. ~ Islam
When a person responds to the joys and sorrows of others as if they were his own, he has attained the highest state of spiritual union. ~ Bhagavad Gita
What you yourself hate, do to no man. ~ Judaism
The greatest wisdom of all is kindness. ~ Jewish proverb
Live in harmony, for we are all related. ~ Native American
What sort of religion can it be without compassion? You need to show compassion to all living beings. Compassion is the root of all religious faiths. ~ Basavanna Vacana
Our spirituality is a oneness and an interconnectedness with all that lives and breathes, even with all that does not live or breathe. ~ Mudrooroo, Australian Aboriginal
Do as you will, as long as you harm no one. ~ Sacred Earth
Just a sampling of what we’re called to do, no matter our spiritual practice.
Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is hurting, in pain, or has misfortune and is accompanied by a strong desire to help the suffering. Community is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common; a body of nations unified by common interests.
This Holy Season, may we, as a community, share the common bonds of understanding, compassion and love.
Life is calling . . . Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!
