Seed tomorrow with wise gestures today
Curt and I checked into a hotel in Las Vegas and had a conversation with a lovely front desk Welcome Agent, originally from Iowa. When I inquired about her hometown, she shared this:
Recently, renovations have been non-stop in Des Moines, which has had an impact on The University of Des Moines Children’s Hospital. Young cancer patients call the 10th floor home, which now overlooks the University football stadium, meaning they can watch all the home games.
ONE game, ONE small group of people, after ONE touchdown, decided to turn toward the 10th floor, cheer and wave to the children. It felt good, so they continued the gesture after the next touchdown. Quickly, the behavior caught on. Soon, the entire stadium joined in – turned, cheered and waved, including the marching band that held their instruments in the air and saluted to the tiny ones . . . all were elated. This behavior is now the tradition at the stadium – starting with one moment of thoughtfulness and compassion for others.
Anthropologist, Margaret Mead wrote: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
Life is calling . . . Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!
