Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise challenges today

I love reading and rereading anything written my Joseph Campbell. And, every time I travel through his work, I’m inspired, challenged and called to action. Read this yesterday and immediately sensed its truth:

Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.

As much as I sometimes wish this reality wasn’t true, my experiences tell me differently.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise doing today

This made sense the minute I read it:

You often feel tired, not because you’ve done too much, but because you’ve done too little of what sparks a light in you.

 Is fatigue calling you?

Seed tomorrow with wise courage today

The first time I read these words, I reflected. A week later, when I read the same quotation I opened the dictionary and reviewed the definition of courage: mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficult. A few weeks later, when the same words crossed my path a third time, I decided to share:

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.   ~ Anais Nin

To self: Breathe, pause, remember your strength, and step forward.

Seed tomorrow with wise insecurity today

Recently, I’ve noticed that I like to be comfortable. As a matter of fact, the older I get, the more comfort and security I seek. Over a decade ago I decided it wasn’t worth buying clothes that didn’t feel like jammies and I’ve loved that decision since the moment I made it!  I like adventures; however, I’ve noticed that the security of the familiar is fabulous. Then, I read things like this:

The task we must set for ourselves is not to feel secure, but to be able to tolerate insecurity.        ~  Erich Fromm

Darn . . . my comfort level is challenged again!

Seed tomorrow with wise civility today

CNN anchor Jake Tapper offered words of advice to graduating students of UMass Amherst regarding how to walk through life:

Mean is easy. Mean is lazy. Mean is self-satisfied and slothful. You know what takes effort? Being kind. Being patient. Being respectful.

Not just about being nice (however, nice works), it’s about being effective and productive; optimizing rather than diminishing human potential.

A notion that’s been around a while:

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  ~ Aesop, 620-564 BC
