Seed tomorrow with wise stories today

Ah, Halloween!  Every year the sight of people garbed in colorful costumes, carrying buckets or pillow cases, often larger than themselves makes me smile. Then, I read this and the day is even more intriguing:

Clothes make a statement. Costumes tell a story.

Trick or Treat!

PS:  The planet can provide for human need, but not for human greed.  ~ Gandhi

Next Tuesday, before you vote, please sit in silence and think, really think.

Seed tomorrow with wise choices today

Saw this sign while roaming in one of the many sweet little towns near us as we’re exploring our new surroundings on the west side of Michigan:

First you make your choices, then your choices make you.

An early reminder:  PLEASE choose to vote November 6th!!!

Seed tomorrow with wise civility today

Civility seems to have taken a back seat in our great nation. Deafening noise, angst and antagonism have replaced intelligent conversation and intentional understanding. Could we possibly use this as compost to rise above the muck?

Character, like a photograph, develops in the darkness.    ~ Yusuf Karsh

We seem to be wandering in the darkness . . . is it possible to breathe, elevate the exchange and work through the divergence?

Seed tomorrow with wise emotional intelligence today

Last week, at our grandson’s elementary school, we attended a session of a course developed at Yale University, Emotions Matter. The concepts are being implemented in the classroom and people nurturing their little ones showed up to learn how to support emotional intelligence and revive civility in our culture. Behaviors spillover from home and the classroom into our larger community – so, I intensely support a focus on civility. It was standing room only!

The slide on the screen as we entered the classroom:

Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.    ~ Aristotle

One of the many great suggestions is to create a family Code of Living – a document, created by all family members, that helps establish a supportive, collaborative environment. Begin with feelings:

  1. How do you want to FEEL today? (Probably translates into every day)
  2. What will you do to have these feelings consistently & create our desired environment?
  3. How will you prevent and manage conflict & unwanted feelings?

It’s a process that takes time, and worth the investment.  Once your family charter is established you can refer to it when conduct is in conflict with the agreed upon behaviors of the charter.

To create productive cultures, we create these in corporations . . . makes complete sense to establish them in our families!

Seed tomorrow with wise measurement today

Cara Tracy, an exceptional yoga instructor and equally fabulous human posted this thought to ponder:

Stop measuring days by degree of productivity and start experiencing them by degree of presence.

Well, that would change everything, wouldn’t it?!!
