I suppose we may not understand the truth of this in our youth; however, as decades pass and we find ourselves avoiding ignorance, non-productive conflict and drama, the profound impact of this notion sinks in.

Seed tomorrow with wise living today

Decades ago, Curt and I experienced Carol Channing on stage in Hello Dolly on Broadway. Her performance was uniquely hers. Last Tuesday, we were saddened to read the sad news of her passing. However, what a long, richly lived life.

Just a few hours after reading the news, we watched an episode of the series Mozart in the Jungle. Bernadette Peters, who plays the New York Symphony orchestra chairwoman is doubting her singing talent. Gael Garcia Bernal, who plays Rodrigo, the newly arrived, controversial maestro says:

We’re notes in this beautiful concert of existence. If we don’t play ourselves, nobody will.

Thank you for demonstrating a well-played life, Ms. Channing!  Sharing yourself brought joy to many,

Seed tomorrow with wise kindness today

I recently read: The real test is being kind to unkind people.

I’ve failed at this more than I’d like to admit; however, a New Year turns to a fresh chapter with yet another offer to become a better version of myself.

As of today, we have 356 days left in 2019 to do one intentional act of kindness a day and change 356 lives. This time next year, the life that will change the most will be the one who actually takes the action.

As I enter this New Year, review my wish list of life, and examine potential experiences that will be my teachers, I take the Dalai Lama’s words seriously:

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

I have a list of places we’ve already been that are calling us back and have researched a few completely new place that are also whispering our names!
