Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise gratitude today

Too often, today’s life seems cluttered, chaotic, and challenging threaded with frustration, disappointment and angst. In moments of feeling consumed, remember the power of thoughts and choose wisely. As Maya Angelou wrote:

Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer.

When feeling overwhelmed, the simple, yet profound act of putting pen to paper, writing that for which we are grateful can shift the mind as well as the next few minutes.

Seed tomorrow with wise mental framing today

I’m overwhelmed by the number of notebooks I have, some containing ideas written so quickly I can barely read my own handwriting. Last week, as I attempted to purge closet of journals, I realized the time was better spent contemplating thoughts I ran across decades ago. Here’s one from Dr. Wayne Dyer, 1990:

If you believe it will work out, you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t, you will see obstacles.

Decades later, I still find his words to be true.

Seed tomorrow with wise creating today

I couple months ago, I wrote about Joseph Campbell’s notion:

Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

In response, someone sent me this, which is definitely worth sharing:

“Finding Yourself” is not really how it works. You aren’t a ten dollar bill in your last winter’s coat pocket. You are not lost. Your true self is right there, buried under cultural conditioning, other people’s opinions, and inaccurate conclusions you drew as a kid that became your beliefs about who you are. “Finding Yourself” is actually “Returning to Yourself.” An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you. ~ Emily McDowell

THANK YOU to whoever sent Ms. McDowell’s words! Now, return to the work of excavation to finally uncover and dust off the treasure!

Seed tomorrow with wise being today

Who says Dr. Seuss is great reading for children only?  Many of us can relate to this:

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

The journey to become our best selves is hard enough without judgement or criticism, especially unsolicited.  So, let’s carry on!
