Seed tomorrow with wise discernment today
I’ve obviously been increasing my reading about effective leadership lately, including the behaviors of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, because of his legacy of remaining calm under attack, maintaining character in the midst of its lack, sustaining a commitment to a power greater than himself and a deep concern for the future of others over luxuries for himself.
Please know I understand ALL leaders are human and therefore complete with human flaws. I’m not attempting to present any leader as superhuman; however, as revealing their true essence, especially when under fire. And, guiding people with respect, honor and grace. His lessons will live for generations.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere.
So I’m completely befuddled that there are citizens who don’t understand that. History has taught us well. Exchanging respect, honor and dignity at the altar of the illusion of a stable economy is a price America cannot afford to pay.
We stand in a time of brutal honestly, looking into our national mirror as we define ourselves. Who are we as a nation? What do we truly value? Will we carry forward the legacy of our founding citizens and the values of justice, dignity and inclusiveness? Or, are we redefining ourselves as something less? Will we thrive as a community of diverse and contributing people, supported by policies that assist people in rising with opportunities? Or, will we continue to criticize, demean, denigrate and, in too many cases, demonize those who have opposing points of view?
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
With respectful, civil discourse, we need to talk about who we are and who we choose to be, because, on a daily basis, our behaviors are demonstrating that which we don’t talk about.
Life is calling . . . Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!
Learn Lavishly. Live Significantly. Leave a Legacy.
