Seed tomorrow with wise thank you today

Both of our daughters were born in September. With increasing intensity over the last 4 decades, I’ve spent the entire month immersed in gratitude. First we celebrated the day of birth which became a week of intention, then the celebration turned into the entire month. A day nor a week of appreciation seemed enough. I’m beyond blessed that these two traveled through me and remain life’s greatest gifts and most significant teachers.

‘Thank you’ is the best prayer that anyone can say.      ~ Alice Walker

Words cannot begin to express how my life has been profoundly transformed by their daddy, by them and now, their husbands and children. The embodiment of bitterness, rage, disappointment, discouragement and disillusionment, my soul erupted as I looked into the eyes of these babes, deserving a life of grace.

Since we can’t give what we don’t have, I immediately began to work on my mental health, addressed anger issues and focused on purposeful parenting skills required to intentionally raise good people, strong women and responsible citizens who could be full of hope and promise. Just the mere thought of who they have chosen to become evokes the prayer of “thank you.”

May all your birthday wishes be granted and may this year continue to be wildly abundant with all you cherish Courtney and Amanda. Happy, happy birthday, dear treasures.

Seed tomorrow with wise communion with nature today

The last few days, we’ve been relaxing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, often with little or no internet access. So, thank you for understanding my choice to “let go” and postpone this week’s post:

Those who contemplate the beauty of the Earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.  ~ Rachel Carson

To re-create requires recreation. What rejuvenates, refreshes and restores you? And, when is the last time you invested yourself in that which brings you delight? For me, indulging in adventures that focus on exploring and appreciating nature, beauty, friendship and the glories of Earth renews my energy and shifts my perspective.

Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.   ~ Albert Einstein

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.   ~ John Muir

If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.  ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder

Since Monday, any moment I felt a need to rush I remembered Lao Tzu’s words: Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

When is it time to stop, breathe, relax and enjoy the beauty around you, and perhaps extend yourself to adventures you have yet to explore?

Seed tomorrow with wise mind control today

Have you ever been on the receiving end of the poison from another? This may help:

When a toxic person can no longer control you, they will try to control how others see you. The misinformation will feel unfair, but stay above it, trusting that other people will eventually see the truth, just like you did.     ~ Author Unknown

A person who condemns others is working out of the primitive part of their brain, called the amygdala, which sends stress hormones throughout their bodies, holding them hostage to their angst, criticism or hate. When we feel offended, attacked, or have a need to protect ourselves, we need to STOP and CONTROL our brain rather than react defensively.

Intentional, intelligent thinking shifts us into our pre-frontal cortex, which distributes calming hormones throughout the body and gives us the opportunity to respond more logically. Let’s stop, breathe, focus our thoughts and reframe the moment.

And, when toxic comments come your way to start a gossip mill, why not respond with, “Hum, that doesn’t sound at all like him/her.” Let’s stop the contamination.

Seed tomorrow with wise digestion today

I have often heard:

We are the books we read, the movies we watch, the music we listen to, the people we spend time with and the conversations we engage in. Choose wisely that which feeds your mind.

Think about how much time and energy we spend thinking about, preparing for and feeding our tummies. Then, compare that to how we intentionally feed our minds.

To avoid flirting with failure, you may want to ask yourself:  Who am I associating with regularly?  What do I regularly watch? What am I reading? What do I listen to?

We can be distracted or we can be legendary; however, we cannot be both.
