Seed tomorrow with wise service today!
Sunday was World Water Day, an annual UN observance that calls attention to our most precious and overlooked resource. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 780 million people live without access to clean water and more than 2.5 billion need improved sanitation. And, there are simple, small steps those of us with access to water can do to help.
- Never flush expired or unwanted medicine down the toilet or drain
- Fix any leaks from cars and collect oil by putting liner on driveway
- Pick up after your pets to prevent waste entering drains, spreading bacteria
- Turn off faucets when not in use (as in while brushing teeth)
- Shorten the length of showers
- Use low-flow toilets
- Donate to organizations that provide sanitation and safe water to the entire planet
Saturday, in support of Earth Hour, millions of people and thousands of business worldwide will turn off lights and shut down most electrical appliances for 60 minutes at 8:30 PM local time to celebrate sustainability and show their support for strategies that will help address the issue of climate crisis. Saturday, can you live without electricity for an hour or at least turn off your lights?
Great opportunities to help others are seldom, but small ways to be of service surround us every day.
Even during social distancing or home isolation, we can find ways to pay attention to the needs of others, do our share to keep ourselves and others safe, and reach out in creative ways to assist another in need. Be safe, take the WHO suggestions seriously and do what you can to ease the worry, pain or suffering of another. This too shall pass. Let’s become better through the process.
