Seed tomorrow with wise thinking today!

This was sent to me and I thought you might find it as helpful as I did:

Ships don’t sink because of the water around them. Ships sink because the water around them gets inside.  Moral: Don’t let what is happening around you get inside of you and weigh you down.

This doesn’t suggest that we ignore or avoid that which is occurring, rather that we circumvent being consumed by it as we lean into the process of thinking through it. Rational, calm, data-driven discernment will help us get from where we are to where we want to be.

Seed tomorrow with wise pause today!

A friend sent this a few weeks ago and I’ve been sitting with the thought ever since:

In the rush to return to normal, use this time to consider which parts of normal are worth rushing back to.      ~ Dave Hollis

Some are using this Great Pause to announce their boredom, to whine, bitch, moan, and complain. Others are using the same time to reflect, to reconsider what really matters, to increase mindfulness of what’s happening around them on a daily basis, to serve where they can, to drink in moments that used to be consumed by frenzy. Perhaps accepting this time of solitude as a gift will serve us more. For some, it might be time sit in silence and master the art of doing nothing . . .

Seed tomorrow with wise change today!

I used to believe that prayer changes things, but know I know that prayer changes us and we change things.         ~ Mother Teresa

It’s our turn.

Seed tomorrow with wise spiritual reflection today!

For many, last Sunday was the beginning of Holy Week, which calls us to prayer, sacrifice and charity.

Today begins Passover. As a Jewish friend eloquently explained it to me, Passover is a metaphor:

It’s the idea of moving from exile to redemption that has been applied to religion, historical and political context. It’s about the journey of personal transformation.

This week of solitude gives us increased time to contemplate life itself, what it asks of us, and how we contribute during the short time we’re here. We have unusual time and space to deeply reflect this year.  Let’s not waste the opportunity.

Seed tomorrow with wise thoughtfulness today!

My husband dropped this quote on my desk, and it’s worth sharing:

Every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.

It’s what we choose to do on a daily basis. Stories of everyday people and commonplace organizations have been surfacing daily during this pandemic, such as sports teams or individual players covering the paychecks of hourly workers during the unexpected stop to sports, celebrities reading children stories on TV while schools are closed, distilleries turning their facilities into hand sanitizer providers and giving the needed item away.

Okay, so most of us can’t cover the paychecks of others, have a voice and acting ability to motivate children to listen at length, or have manufacturing operations to provide a needed resource; however, there are many behaviors that make difference. Some are offering to go to the grocery store or pick up prescriptions for people who cannot, others are delivering a meal or a pot of soup, and checking in on others who may have a need.

We can simply ask ourselves how we can send someone a smile today or extended help to another who looks like s/he needs it. Is there a phone call you could make or a virtual cup of coffee you could have with someone who could use some uplifting? Have you expressed your love, gratitude, admiration or respect for people you often think about, yet seldom see? Have you been concerned about someone, yet not picked up the phone to connect? Is today a good day to check up on the elderly neighbor down the street or someone you know who has no transportation to access daily needs? Or, do you have a few minutes to donate needed blood?

For some, these are uncommon, yet ordinary and relatively easy gestures we can take that could easily make an extraordinary difference to otherwise unremarkable moments.
