Seed tomorrow with wise thoughtfulness today!
My husband dropped this quote on my desk, and it’s worth sharing:
Every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.
It’s what we choose to do on a daily basis. Stories of everyday people and commonplace organizations have been surfacing daily during this pandemic, such as sports teams or individual players covering the paychecks of hourly workers during the unexpected stop to sports, celebrities reading children stories on TV while schools are closed, distilleries turning their facilities into hand sanitizer providers and giving the needed item away.
Okay, so most of us can’t cover the paychecks of others, have a voice and acting ability to motivate children to listen at length, or have manufacturing operations to provide a needed resource; however, there are many behaviors that make difference. Some are offering to go to the grocery store or pick up prescriptions for people who cannot, others are delivering a meal or a pot of soup, and checking in on others who may have a need.
We can simply ask ourselves how we can send someone a smile today or extended help to another who looks like s/he needs it. Is there a phone call you could make or a virtual cup of coffee you could have with someone who could use some uplifting? Have you expressed your love, gratitude, admiration or respect for people you often think about, yet seldom see? Have you been concerned about someone, yet not picked up the phone to connect? Is today a good day to check up on the elderly neighbor down the street or someone you know who has no transportation to access daily needs? Or, do you have a few minutes to donate needed blood?
For some, these are uncommon, yet ordinary and relatively easy gestures we can take that could easily make an extraordinary difference to otherwise unremarkable moments.
