Seed tomorrow with wise thanksgiving today!

This has been a different year, challenging most of us month-after-month, and for many, the most devastating time of their life. Yet, tomorrow, most of us will bow our heads in sincere gratitude for the life we have the luxury of living. A life that offers us an opportunity to think about the people who have encouraged, supported, and in many cases, sustained us in moments that felt too heavy for us to carry ourselves. It’s a good day to remember Albert Schweitzer’s words:

At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us

I, like most of you, cherish people in my life who have helped to define me, redefine me, and supported my transcendence beyond my own definition. Tomorrow, I will begin and end my day with prayers of thanks to who lend me their light to find my own inner strength and to the courage they have offered to help me to move beyond my limitations.

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day!

Seed tomorrow with wise tending today

I saw this sign posted in the window of a business yesterday and immediately thought “how appropriate:”

A miraculous healing awaits this planet once we accept our new responsibility to collectively tend the Garden, rather than fight over the Turf.

May nurturing begin as soon as possible!

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise understanding today

The drama of our elections, the divide amongst fellow Americans, and the seeming unwillingness or inability to work together to address issues continues. In our moments of emotion may we remember something a cousin shared with me last week:

Be careful not to dehumanize people you disagree with. In our self-righteousness, we can easily become the very thing we dislike in others.  ~ Marc and Angel

And, a friend, who is also a pastor shared this:

We are all so desperate to be understood, we forget to be understanding.

It doesn’t look like agreement about much is around the corner so, as we walk down this road of disagreement, can we please commit to being civil, respectful and at least attempt to explore solutions together? Otherwise, how can we possibly sustain our nation’s two centuries of work toward one nation, indivisible . . . attempting to create a more perfect union?

Life is calling . . .  Today’s the day . . . Make this moment matter!!

Seed tomorrow with wise behaviors today

Okay, it’s deep breathing time. Although there are speculations of what we might expect life to be like in these United States for the next four years, we all know the importance of supporting the ballot counting process to ensure accuracy. The final announcement will take time and will not be easily accepted by many. Some may have to work hard not to act how they feel. It is such times that call for deep breaths, discipline, and the ability to intelligently manage desperate disappointment. Many disagree with friends and family members who hold opposing views. Our resolve must therefore be even more disciplined.

Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.

Today, it’s best to decide who you will be once the results are announced and resolve to respond with grace whether your candidate is selected or not. Our sanity, civility, and the soul of the nation depend on it.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
