Seed tomorrow with wise creation today!

Well, here we are, about to turn the page on another new chapter. A New Year awaits; empty pages lie ahead. Pick up your pen and intentionally inscribe each day with purpose and clarity as you give attention to that which matters most, with the knowledge that all will not evolve as we want, rather as it will be. Eckhart Tolle reminds us:

Accept – then act.

Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it.

Always work with it, not against it.

This will miraculously transform your life.

Hum . . . not certain I can always practice this notion; however, intuitively know it has profound power to convert frustration and anger to hope and increased personal governance.

‘Tis the season for warm wishes. We received a greeting card that states it well:

The spirit of the season is a sweet, internal peace that affirms the power of kindness and charity. It is simply an honest spirit of love for all humanity, the force that moves us to give what we can, to help as we are able, and to always be of kind comfort.

I pray for joy in our hearts, hope in our collective consciousness, love to forgive, and peace upon the Earth.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise respect today!

It’s that time of the year again for increased kindness, joy, giving, and thoughtfulness (if only we could do that all year round!).  I’m a practicing Christian and celebrate the sacredness of Christmas. However, if I do not know the faith of another when I extend holiday wishes, I respectfully say, Happy Holidays, since there are approximately 29 holidays observed by 7 of the world’s major religions between November 1 and January 24.

When someone says ‘Happy Holidays’ it is not to be politically correct nor is it a war on Christmas. It’s called respect.

May we all be reverent with our way of worship and not diminish or dismiss any holy day, rather allow all to honor their own.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise inner work today!

How many times have you heard: We’re all in this together!

Nelson Mandela understood this as he addressed the nation in his inaugural speech (excerpts):

Out of the experience of an extraordinary human disaster that lasted too long,

must be born a society of which all humanity will be proud.

The time for the healing of the wounds has come.

The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come.

The time to build is upon us.

We understand that there is no easy road to freedom.

We know it well that none of us acting alone can achieve success.

We must therefore act together as a united people, for national reconciliation,

for nation building, for the birth of a new world.

Echoing Marianne Williamson’s words, Mandela reminded us:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Our inner work affects our families, communities, nations, and the world.  May we remain present, kind, and in the learning mode, remembering that we’re all in this together.

One person’s awakening will enlighten countless others.   ~ Shinto Ito

Seed tomorrow with wise blessings today!

Every year, deep reflection starts with Thanksgiving as I examine the year I’ve lived and imagine the one that is around the corner. The following, A Franciscan Benediction, is a prayer that consistently keeps me grounded, on purpose, and recalibrates my perspective:

May God bless you with discomfort…
Discomfort at easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships,
Discomfort, so that you will live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger…
Anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
Anger, so that you will work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears…
Tears to shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, starvation and war,
Tears, so that you will reach out to comfort them
And turn their pain into joy.

And, may God bless you with foolishness…
Foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world,
Foolishness, so that you will do what others claim cannot be done.

And, to that I say Amen.
