Seed tomorrow with wise promising and delivery today!

This message is late since internet service has finally been restored after losing it last night. Having power, I turned on the TV to catch up on the news while writing this message to ironically view a commercial about our internet/TV provider – the only one available in our area, or I would certainly change. We’ve lost internet service more than a dozen times this year.

Frustrated, annoyed, and disgusted I, once again, viewed the huge disconnect between marketing and reality. What’s the benefit of advertising excellence then delivering far less than mediocre? Early in my practice an elder told me to always:

Promise less, deliver more.

Great advice for any one or any organization that serves others.

Seed tomorrow with wise care and compassion today!

Ward Foley, author of Thank My Lucky Stars, was born with multiple birth defects and little chance to live. If that was not enough, he was severely burnt by a deep fryer, scorned and beaten, and almost killed by a drunk driver. Decades of surgeries, ridicule, agony, and humiliation he writes,

We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life. It’s up to us to make it good or bad.

To help children, Foley created Scarman, a doll on which they can draw their own scars, with the hope that they might accept and love themselves just the way they are.

His message of courage, hope, support, and unconditional love is one that vibrates through the molecules of humanity in what feels like a call to edit our collective DNA. May we become better at caring, connecting, accepting, and extending respect and compassion to each and every human we encounter.

Seed tomorrow with wise thinking today!

I live in Michigan and was beyond saddened, unfortunately, not shocked; however, beyond saddened to read a report Monday morning of Roy Thorne. He, his son, and his real estate agent were handcuffed by police while the agent was showing them a house in my home state. Mr. Thorne said it was yet another incident of the risks Black and Brown people assume just by doing, what many call, normal things.

If you see a crime, report a crime. But if you see people — Black people, any minority — don’t report people doing normal things.   ~ Roy Thorne

Those of us who do not consistently experience such disrespect, mistreatment, and abuse may easily dismiss the call to change. Let’s not.

Seed tomorrow with wise intentional moments today!

Do you know anyone who is constantly chasing happiness only to be continuously miserable?

Perhaps you hear words like, I’ll be happy when . . . I meet that someone special, when I’m accepted into that university, when I get that promotion or raise, when I get married, when I have children, when the children finally leave the house, when I retire . . . an entire life consumed by thoughts of lack and desires that make it impossible to appreciate the moment we’re in, chasing “the next” whatever.

For a moment, consider two things:

. What in this moment can I breathe in and savor?

. For what am I grateful that brings me joy?

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.   ~ Frederick Koenig
