Seed tomorrow with wise creation today!

I’ve been re-reading and reflecting upon Glenna Doyle’s work recently and she’s given me several things to pause and think about.  Here’s one:

If you feel something calling you to dance or write or paint or sing, please refuse the worry about whether you’re good enough. Just do it.

Like me, perhaps your life has been more focused on the product than on the process. Since my semi-retirement and renewed efforts in artistic endeavors, the results of my attempts have been substantially less than stellar. However, the act of experiencing their creation has made a splendid difference in the way I embrace life itself. I can see progress with each piece I produce, yet am most delighted about my ability to finally let go of the focus on the final product and to enjoy the act of creating.

Okay, I’ll admit that many of my pieces look like our grandchildren were the creators. However, they still make me smile when I glance at them.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise reflections today!

Yesterday was the birthday of our first born and next week is the birthday of our last born. For us, September is an annual receptacle of sacred. Reflecting upon their birth and the magnificent women they have become, serendipity struck as I picked up a book and read:

Your greatest contribution to the universe may not be something you do, but someone you raise.

Curt and I agree that these two make Earth better because they graciously, gracefully and with great decency and responsibility walk on it as compassionate humans. I have no idea why we were so blessed; however, we are beyond grateful for experiencing them as our daughters.

As both begin another glorious journey around the sun, I pray their paths are wildly abundant with all that matters most.

Birthdays are a great time to pause, reflect, appreciate, and begin again. Each year, compounded with our past experiences offers us the opportunity to alter the way we view each new day, influencing how we understand and respond to everything and everyone, from the simplest routines to the complex, and to the unexpected events in our world. A process to embrace, learn from, and enjoy. May we all remember to celebrate and apprise life day by day, year by year. 

PS: All of us were born an original. May we not die a redundant copy.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise memories today!

To keep things in perspective and maintain some sense of wholeheartedness, I attempt to live this Taoist teaching:

If you erase all the mistakes of your past, you would also erase all the wisdom of your present.

Remember the lesson, not the disappointment.

Perhaps, like me, you have a propensity to give attention to the “bad” stuff which diminishes focus and reflection on indispensable learning. Today, I remember.  May I remember again tomorrow!
