Seed tomorrow with wise spirit today!

‘Tis the season to wish everyone joy, love and peace. A time to give thanks and to deeply appreciate the blessings that surrounds us. A greeting card I received states it well:

The spirit of the season is a sweet, internal peace that affirms the power of kindness and charity. It is simply an honest spirit of love for all humanity, the force that moves us to give what we can, to help as we are able, and to always be of kind comfort.

I pray for joy in our hearts, hope in our collective consciousness, the compassion to forgive, and love to create peace on Earth.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise thinking today!

Whoever wrote this understands the human quandary many of us skirmish with:

Don’t judge yourself by your past. You don’t live there anymore.

As we celebrate our 47^th wedding anniversary, I cringe as I remember who I was as a young bride. And, give daily thanks for the role model I’ve learned from over the decades.  Curt’s patience, support, kindness, and example as he lives life (even when it gets tough) has fundamentally transformed who I am. 

Blessed, truly blessed. Who do respect and admire in your life? Who can you learn from by simply observing?  Who is learning from you?

Yesterday, in between eating oysters, we roamed in and out of unique shops in New Orleans. Reading this on a poster caught my attention and yanked at my soul:

Our days are happier when we give people a piece of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

So true, so simple, so sensible.  So, why is it so hard?

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise burden lightening today!

My brother sent me this story of the author, Charles Dickens. Reading it immediately brought additional meaning to his work. When he was 12 years old, he labored in a shoe polish factory while his father was in debtor’s prison. Like many of us, his childhood experiences set the course for the rest of his life. Remembering messages in masterpieces like Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, and my favorite, A Christmas Carol, one can feel his passion for exposing the social and economic suffering of the lower class in 19th-century London.

This line from his last 1865 novel, Our Mutual Friend, speaks to all of us who have ever questioned our purpose:

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it for anyone else.

Over 150 years later the point is still profoundly relevant. Helping others, especially those in need, is perhaps more than meaningful. Perhaps, it’s the path toward a fulfilled life.
