Seed tomorrow with wise dreaming today!

Here it is already – the last month of this New Year. Talking about the rest of the year, a friend asked me:

What would your occupation be if you had followed your childhood dreams?

Hum . . . a lot to consider here.

. Did you have any childhood dreams, yearnings, early clues of gifts or talents?

. Were you encouraged to dream, or were you instructed to be practical?

. At what age did you decide that making money and paying bills were more important than meaning in life and inner joy?

. Did you have anyone in your life who intentionally inspired you to explore your dreams?

These are probably only the beginning of a list of important questions.

. Today, who are members of your support system?

. Does your circle of support encourage you to explore your inner thoughts and dreams?

Too many adults boohoo dreams and dreaming, leaving them open bait for lack of inspiration and frustration, often accompanied by a sense of emptiness. Perhaps it’s time to grab a good friend and start the conversation?

Oh my . . . this is so true . . . pain is the gift sent to bring about change.

For many, the last few years have been riddled with challenge, difficulty, angst, and pain. We could benefit by reframing the experiences as callings and opportunities to transform cringe-making into knowledge gained.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise habit forming today!

Many say that they’ll be doing things differently in 2022. We did some of those things so routinely they became our habits. Turning the page on a New Year is an opportunity to make intentional decisions about what to carry into the New Year and what to leave behind. Centuries ago, Aristotle reminded us:

We are what we repeatedly do.

Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Character is a composite of our habits . . . as you sow, so shall you reap. Next January will come faster than we expect. We’ll look back with satisfaction or regret. So, let’s embrace this New Year with purpose, deliberation, and resolve until our behaviors become expressions of who we are through our consistent, unconscious patterns in our daily lives.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise focus today!

As I enter another New Year I seriously ponder less upon what I’m going to add to my life and more upon what I’m going to let go of in it.

Have you ever asked yourself how much time, energy, and intelligence you spend on things that matter little to you? Things that others want and expect of you? Things you think you SHOULD be doing? Things that bring you little to no joy? If there’s a lot of “yes’ in your responses, how much of you is left to invest in what really matters MOST to YOU?

The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.   ~ Russell M. Nelson

So, in 2022, rather than living out the discernment of doing all that I am responsible for, I resolve to increase my focus on Robert Louis Stevenson’s words:

Find out where joy resides and give it a voice far beyond singing. For to miss the joy is to miss it all.
