Seed tomorrow with wise birthing today!

As I approach my 70^th year of experiencing this glorious planet, I contemplate James Baldwin words written decades ago:

An old world is dying and a new one, kicking in the belly of its mother, time, announces that it is ready to be born. The birth will not be easy, and many of us are doomed to discover that we are exceedingly clumsy midwives.

We clumsy midwives will need to be prepared for this newborn world, its rebellious toddler years, and, of course, its ensuing adolescence. However, this new world can only be as collaborative, compassionate, inclusive, and wise as its inhabitants. Therefore, those of us who yearn for a world that offers respect, honor, opportunity, and equity to all have continual inner and outer work to do.

Writing my 70^th birthday wish from Costa Rica this year: May I learn enough and act enough to do my part before I leave this planet.

Seed tomorrow with wise arguing today!

Have you ever been so irritated, angry, or completely full of angst that you almost stooped to the behaviors of the person who was annoying to you? Yep, me too. Before my mouth opens I pray that I remember: 

Don’t argue with an idiot. People watching my not be able to tell the difference.

We can easily become that which we propose to reject by not monitoring and governing our own behaviors.

Wednesday Wisdom

Seed tomorrow with wise practice today!

I can read and reread Malcom Gladwell’s books again and again, each and every time, finding something I need to remember, such as:

Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing that makes you good.

It’s easy to get frustrated when reviewing of the list of things I’ve promised to work on in 2022, since it’s not the first time I’ve committed to a few of the attributes.

Doctors, CPAs, consultants, and others have practices. That does not mean that they’re rehearsing, in mere preparation. They repetitively perform the same rituals when serving others, growing their experience, expertise and wisdom.

We, in our daily practices, benefit from the same repetition when we continue to cultivate growth in specific areas of our lives. Even when we feel annoyed with our progress, it’s value-added to our lives and the lives of others to remain steadfast to our commitments.

Seed tomorrow with wise problem solving today!

A dear friend frequently studies at a Buddhist Boot Camp that teaches practical use of ancient thought and shared this with me:

Confronting people who upset us instead of confronting our anger is like blaming rain for soaking us instead of using an umbrella.

If other people easily upset us, the problem isn’t the other, it’s our short fuse. Ouch . . . work left to do?!
