Seed tomorrow with wise travel today!
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote:
There is no foreign land; it is the traveler only who is foreign.
Indulging in my annual habit of celebrating my birthday in a land I’ve to yet explore, I reflect upon being asked why I insist on a life that includes abundant travel. The author, Terry Pratchett, captures my thoughts:
Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.
Travel calls me, stretches my perceptions, deepens my appreciation of diverse cultures and varied philosophies, and challenges my otherwise elementary school ideas of what is right, beautiful, meaningful, and spiritual.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. ~ St. Augustine
And, then there’s the words of Mark Twain:
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.
My birthday prayer is Thank you. Thank you for the creation of a magnificent, diverse, sacred planet, full of glorious people. And, thank you for the luxury of being able to experience so much of Earth’s magnificence.
Life is calling . . . Today’s the day!
